The event will see 40 Apex Legends teams from across the world compete across the group stage, bracket stage, and finals for a share of its $1m (~£785,040) prize pool. Alongside the money, teams will also earn ALGS Playoff Points which are used to determine which teams qualify for the year-end ALGS Championship.
The Split One playoffs will be held at the Galen Center. The venue is no stranger to hosting esports events, having hosted the Call of Duty League (CDL) Championship in 2022. The move to Los Angeles marks the first Apex Legends event to take place outside of the UK since July 2022.
John Nelson, Senior Director and Commissioner of Apex Legends Esports, spoke on the ALGS heading to Los Angeles: “Los Angeles is the perfect host city for the ALGS.
“Not only is Respawn Entertainment, creator of Apex Legends, headquartered in LA, but it’s also home to some notable ALGS esports organisations in TSM and FaZe Clan. We’re looking forward to making our mark on the fast-growing Los Angeles esports scene and kicking off ALGS LAN competition in a big way.”
Prior to the 2024 Split 1 Playoffs, the ALGS North American Regional Finals were subject to a remote hack where players competing had their accounts compromised. As a result of the incident, Apex Legends Esports has postponed the remainder of the tournament and it has yet to be revealed which teams will now qualify for the event.
Despite this, the ALGS continues to show promising signs of growth as the circuit enters its fourth year. 2023’s season-ending championship recorded an average viewership of 223,000 across its 47-hour air time according to esports data platform Esports Charts.
