Here is everything we know about the new Baron Nashor and other void changes coming to LoL for the 2024 season.

LoL 2024 Void changes – Baron Nashor

The new Baron Nashor is getting a refreshing visual update, as well as the new brand forms: Hunting Baron, Territorial Baron, and the All-Seeing Baron. The first leaves the pit unchanged, the Territorial Baron creates a wall in front of the pit while the All-Seeing Baron closes off the front and opens up both sides creating a tunnel.

This will create more variability in the games, as teams will be forced to play around objectives differently based on the version of Baron that spawns. The attack pattern will also be changed: All-Seeing Baron opens a Void Rift that creates a damage-over-time zone within the new tunnel pit while the Territorial Baron pulls champions near him. The Hunting Baron, instead, will blast all nearby enemies with lightning from above. Overall, the new Void map and Baron changes will make the teamfights in LoL a lot more strategic, forcing teams to learn how to adapt on the go.

The new Rift Herald and Void Grubs

It’s not just about Baron: neutral objectives are getting reworked across the board. The new Rift Harald will also have a new look. According to Riot, the user or allied champions will be able to jump on Shelly and pilot the Herald like a Sion’s ultimate. By jumping on the Rift Herald, Shelly will also deal additional damage to structures, adding one layer of complexity and decision-making to the plays.

“If you happen to run into an enemy champion then they will be damaged and knocked airborne. Once you collide with terrain or a turret the champion riding Shelly will be knocked off, going back to their usual selves,” explained Riot.

2024 will also welcome new neutral objectives in the Baron pit with the addition of Voidgrubs. These beasties will spawn at 5 minutes, with their own respawn timer of 4 minutes, up to a maximum of six. They will despawn at 14 minutes when Rift Herald spawns.

Voidgrubs will attack those who attempt to take them down. Once killed, the team that kills the Voidgrubs will gain damage over time bonus damage to structures, and it will stack based on the number of Voidgrubs. If you’re able to stack 5 or 6 Voidgrubs, the team will also be able to spawn 1 or 2 Voidmites to further accelerate the process of taking down structures.

These changes aim at balancing out the importance of the dragons compared to the top side of the map. With both objectives spawning at the same time, jungler and teams will have to better plan out their routes and plays based on their team composition and game state. Overall, this should bring the game to a more balanced state where teams can gain similar levels of power by playing on two different sides of the map.
