League of Legends season 14 – All dragon changes explained

Dragons have been playing an important role in League of Legends for almost a decade. Since the implementation of elemental drakes, players have realized how impactful the buffs are during the game, causing the game to become more and more bot-centric. This trend has reached its peak in the past two seasons, causing more monotony in both solo queue and professional play.

With that in mind, the devs have been looking to balance out the importance of both sides of the map while making a few changes to the dragons to keep the game refreshing.

Infernal drake changes

The major changes will be done to the Infernal Dragon. Now, once the Infernal Dragon is unlocked, Infernal Cinders will spawn, which grants adaptive stats and a burst of movement speed upon picking them up. Half of these Cinders will be dropped on champion death and can be picked up by allies.

In other words, Riot is planning to reward and further enhance the offensive and aggressive playstyle when the Infernal Rift is activated.

“Our goal is that this will help us create more interesting map states beyond just terrain changes like Hextech and Chemtech 2.0, but we’ll keep a close eye on how these changes land and how players like them,” said Riot in their Gameplay Review for the new season.

Alongside that, Riot is planning to make minor Ocean and Mountain Rifts adjustments given the new map layout that will be implemented in the new season with brushes and wall tweaks.

Additionally, there might be more dragon adjustments before the season launches. Paired with the big itemization rework coming to the game, we should be looking at one of the most refreshing season starts of recent years: watch out for our Patch 14.1 Preview in the upcoming days.
