New CS2 inventory bug gave skin collectors the worst scare possible this Halloween

An inventory bug on Steam for Valve’s Counter-Strike 2 gave many players with huge investments into the skins market quite a fright. The bug showed everything in players’ inventories as the default Desert Eagle, leading players to think they’d lost hundreds if not thousands in skins and stickers.

The title of the Reddit thread is ironic, and the visuals have been confirmed as a small bug. Several users thought they had fallen prey to an API scam, one of Steam’s notorious pitfalls. When you connect your Steam account to a sketchy third-party website to trade skins, sometimes that connection webpage is actually giving the operators authorization to manage your trade offers. You log in the next day and boom, your entire inventory is gone.
