IEM Sydney 2023 Day 2 Review | G2 Secure Playoffs, NAVI Run Ends

IEM Sydney 2023 has concluded for day two, with just one day remaining for the IEM groups. We’ve seen even more teams secure a Playoffs spot, as well as a few who have been eliminated from the IEM Sydney 2023 Group Stage.

After beating Grayhound on day one of IEM Sydney 2023, G2 made short work of Complexity on day two to secure their place in the upcoming Playoffs. Everyone on the roster had their contributions, but it was m0NESY who had the most to give on the server, going 38:20 across the series. However, the highlight here was NiKo, hitting a 360 no-scope like it was a 2009 Call of Duty montage. NiKo, this is CS – we don’t do that here.

ENCE also secured their Playoff spot from the IEM groups, after edging out Fnatic in a 2:1 thriller. Both ENCE and G2 were two teams in our IEM Sydney 2023 power rankings that we saw making it through, so it’s no surprise to see that come to fruition.

NAVI Sent Home

After scraping by on the first day of IEM Sydney 2023, NAVI met their match against FaZe Clan. There were promising signs, even dominating FaZe on Mirage. However, it wasn’t to be, with the team eventually falling on Inferno. Playing with B1ad3 as a stand-in for s1mple was always going to be tough, but the veteran coach at least managed a few multi-kills to add to the old highlight reel.

You can’t judge NAVI too much on the back of this IEM groups performance. Let’s see them play CS2 as a full roster first, before we jump to any real conclusions about their future.

Snax on the Big Stage?

With Snax making his big return to Tier 1 with GamerLegion, he goes into the final day of the IEM groups with a chance at making the big stage. With a match against FaZe awaiting the team in Group A’s Lower Bracket, it won’t be easy, but it would be brilliant to see Snax make a deep run here after a four-year hiatus from Tier 1 CS.

Elsewhere, the Lower Bracket of Group B is shaping up to be a spicy finish. Complexity vs Cloud9 make up one side, with Fnatic vs Monte on the other. The winner of those matches will compete tomorrow for the final Playoffs spot at IEM Sydney 2023.
