Alan Wake: Flashback is a Fortnite Experience That Recreates Remedy's Iconic Story

In an unexpected fusion of gaming franchises, Epic Games announced Alan Wake: Flashback, a new Fortnite experience that revisits Remedy Entertainment’s 2010 cult classic.

A new trailer was released today announcing that Fortnite players can now check out the Alan Wake: Flashback Island by entering the code 3426-5561-3374 at no cost. “Rediscover the mysteries of Bright Falls and shine your light on events from Alan Wake in Alan Wake: Flashback,” the trailer’s YouTube description says. The island was a collaboration between Remedy Entertainment, Spiral House, and Zen Creative.

The launch comes 10 days ahead of the release of Alan Wake 2, the long-awaited sequel, and is ideal for those who play Fortnite and are interested in Alan Wake 2 but have yet to play the original. While Remedy released Alan Wake Remastered in 2021 for modern consoles, the Fortnite experience, while brief, is a nice recap for those who don’t have the time to play the original and want to be caught up before playing Alan Wake 2.

The promotional tie-in is not surprising from either studio as Epic Games and Remedy have previously established a partnership, with Epic launching a publishing label in 2020, and the Fortnite maker serving as the publisher for Alan Wake Remastered and Alan Wake 2.

The announcement comes a week after Epic Games announced it was introducing an Alan Wake skin into Fortnite as part of a new batch of Halloween-themed items available in the Fortnite shop as part of Fortnitemares 2023.

In IGN’s review of Alan Wake Remastered, which we awarded a 7 out of 10, we said: “Alan Wake Remastered is a fairly inessential upgrade for existing fans, but this moody mystery is still well worth a look for newcomers.”
