NL is the latest to make it in this way, after claiming victory at the CPT 2023 Asia East Online Qualifier.

East Asia Online Qualifier CPT
By the time we reached the final bracket for the qualifier, NL had actually already been knocked down to the losers round. He entered during the second round. This wasn’t quite a full run through the bracket from the bottom up but still pretty impressive. The player quickly dominated once he entered this section though. He beat Ugang to start 2-0, before edging ahead of Oil King 3-2, then easily passing both UMA327 and HotDog29 3-0 each.
This all secured his spot in the loser’s final. Plus, giving him a real shot at qualifying after running through the lower bracket. These underdog runs are always fun to see. It has definitely showed NL had proven he deserved his spot in the final. First though, he had to get through a tight 3-2 match against Leshar. This finally put him through to the Grand Final.
Here he faced Chris Wong, who had been absolutely dominated across the winner’s bracket. NL managed to take the first round here though, winning 3-0, turning the tables and forcing a full reset. This second round had a slot at the Capcom Cup X at stake, and the finals had been extended out thanks to NL’s comeback. Ultimately, the South Korean player managed to repeat his win in the second section, just winning 3-2.
