Today’s Sony State of Play brought us the gift of a brand new gameplay trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, during which we saw another taste of the game’s open world gameplay, and a taste of the over 65 different Spider-suits available.
Gameplay during today’s trailer showed off the much larger map once again – it’s more than double the size of the map in the first Spider-Man game, and web wings can help you swing across it even faster. We also got a look at new activities and storylines available in the open world, and the numerous ways the game will point those markers out to you via an in-game app, visual cues, and special abilities. Insomniac also teased that alongside Venom and Kraven, we’ll also see more Marvel villains that have never been in the Spider-Man universe before.
Most interesting of all, we got a look at a number of the new Spider suits available. Insomniac promised “lots and lots of suits” – over 65 different ones, to be more exact, coming from the comics, movies, and including multiple original designs. With other customization options, Spider-Man 2 has over 200 different looks for the two Spider-Mans.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was announced in 2021 as a sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales from Insomniac Games. It features Peter Parker and Miles Morales as dual protagonists who can be swapped between during play, and villains including Venom, Kraven the Hunter, and even subtle references to Jackson Weele’s Big Wheel. We’ll also see J. Jonah Jameson return to The Daily Bugle. At SDCC earlier this year, Sony revealed a new Spider-Man-themed PS5 and DualSense controller to tie into the game.
