Starfield was released into early access on September 1st, 2023 – and it suddenly became the talk of the town. By that point, the hype train had gathered up as much steam as possible, and millions of gamers worldwide were sitting on the edges of their seats, desperate to experience Bethesda Game Studios’ latest RPG epic. However, there’s one point that still needs to be cleared up for many gamers – is Starfield on PlayStation? And if it’s not, will it ever be?
It’s easy to see why people might be confused. Throughout history, every Bethesda Game Studios game has been released on PlayStation platforms – The Elder Scrolls and games in the Fallout series, for example. But is Starfield a different type of game entirely, and is there a blocker in place that’ll prevent it from making its way to PlayStation 5?
Let’s find out – is Starfield on PlayStation?
Can You Play Starfield on PS5?
Sorry, PlayStation fans – Starfield is not on PlayStation 5 and it never will be. It’s a result of Microsoft acquiring ZeniMax (and by association, Bethesda Game Studios) back in 2021. It means that all Bethesda Game Studios titles will now launch exclusively on Xbox and PC platforms. That includes Starfield, of course – but it also includes The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. They’re some heavy-hitting franchises, as proven by the weight pulled by Starfield in early access.
There are currently no methods you can apply to trick your way around the system and play Starfield on PS5, either. If you want to explore the wide, open expanse of Starfield’s near-infinite environment, you’ll need to purchase an Xbox Series X|S console or build yourself a PC or a gaming laptop.
Is Starfield on PlayStation? No, unfortunately not.
Are There Games Like Starfield on PlayStation?
Of course, it doesn’t end there for you if you’re on PlayStation. There are plenty of alternatives that you can access on PlayStation consoles – whether that be PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, or PlayStation 5. Here are some of the best games on PlayStation like Starfield:
No Man’s Sky
If you’re eager to soar through space, build outposts, discover planets, and upgrade ships, then look no further than No Man’s Sky. It’s one of the greatest space-themed games in the history of the business, making use of a unique procedural generation engine that truly means you’re exploring an endless universe of possibilities.
Fallout
Fallout is an easy alternative to Starfield if you’re just hunting for that RPG feel. It’s set in post-apocalyptic America, and over the years, it has established itself as one of the best RPGs of all time. We’d recommend starting with Fallout 4.

Prey
Prey is quite close to Starfield because it was developed by Arkane Studios, another ZeniMax company. It’s a single-player thriller set on a space station that sees you assume control of a character fighting for survival against an alien invasion – it’s epic and at times both looks and feels like Starfield.
