Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth New Trailer Reveals Cait Sith, Vincent, and Release Date

Sony’s State of Play just gave us another tantalyzing look at the upcoming Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, also revealing the release date: Feb. 29, 2024.

The new trailer includes the appearances of beloved mechanical cat mascot Cait Sith, Vincent, Zack Fair, and more. Watch it below.

One big question still on everyone’s minds is how Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth will continue to warp the story of the original Final Fantasy 7. We won’t get into spoilers for those who haven’t played Remake, but Remake did feature some pretty substantial changes from the original plot that have led fans to question whether or not major story events from later in FF7 will happen at all. What’s more, Square Enix has recently remastered Final Fantasy: Crisis Core and seems to be hinting at some ties to that game’s story.

Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth was officially revealed last June as part two of the full remake of the original Final Fantasy 7, following Final Fantasy 7: Remake (I know, confusing!). Rebirth is the second part of a three-part trilogy, and work on part three had already begun as recently as June of this year. Despite the complexity of the trilogy, developers say you don’t need to play through Remake to understand Rebirth. Rebirth specifically will feature a world with a “high degree of freedom” according to Square Enix, more “intimate” battles, and humorously, two discs. The game is expected to come out in 2024.
