Ape Out Creators' Next Game, Baby Steps, Gets a Release Window of Next Summer

The next game from the Ape Out creators, Baby Steps, just got a narrowed release window for next year during today’s State of Play – it’s coming out in the summer of 2024.

Baby Steps is the most literal interpretation of a walking simulator possible: you play as Nate, a man who, well, walks. And wears a onesie? The game features “fully-simulated physics-based walking” where you control every aspect of Nate putting one foot in front of the other in minute detail as he puts one foot in front of the other. Everything he does is fully physically simulated though, so he’ll probably fall down a lot as you take Nate on a trek up a “mountain-sized mountain” with a dynamic soundtrack and “soilage system” ensuring your onesie gets fully and appropriately dirty.

The whole thing is narrated over by the developers in what the team is calling a “seat of your pants” approach in its description of the story with “unconventional editing.” Simply put, this is gonna be a silly one.

Baby Steps is being published by Developer Digital, and is a collaboration between Getting Over It’s Bennett Foddy, Ape Out’s Gabe Cuzillo, and former Dance Central director Maxi Boch. It’s a heck of a star-studded team, especially for a game seemingly intended to be a humorous dissection of video games as a medium. It was first revealed earlier this year.
