The biggest fighting tournament in the world has returned this year as EVO 2023 and featured not only some of the biggest moments in the fighting game world, but also some of its biggest game announcements.
From Street Fighter 6 getting a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover to new characters being announced for Mortal Kombat 1 and Tekken 8 to the first Fatal Fury game since 1999, there was a ton to be excited about at this year’s show.

Street Fighter 6 Is Getting a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Crossover This Month
The worlds of Street Fighter 6 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are set to collide on August 8 as TMNT gear, emotes, titles, stamps, and costumes that will turn you into your favorite turtle will be added to Street Fighter 6.
While Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo aren’t being added as full characters like they were in Injustice 2, there looks to be a ton of fan service in this package that includes an emote that sees your character chowing down on some delicious pizza.

Street Fighter 6 DLC Character A.K.I. Gets a Teaser Trailer at EVO 2023
Street Fighter 6’s next DLC character after Rashid is the “maniacal poison aficionado” A.K.I., and she got a teaser trailer and a re-confirmed Autumn 2023 release window at EVO 2023. The footage shown features the very creepy A.K.I. attacking a player character and having way too much fun doing it as she describes the horrible things the poison she’s given them will do.

Mortal Kombat 1 Adds Reptile, Ashrah, and Havik as New Fighters at EVO 2023
Mortal Kombat 1 is nearly here and NetherRealm stopped by EVO 2023 to reveal that Reptile, Ashrah, and Havik will be joining the roster. It was also confirmed that Sareena will be joining MK1 as a Kameo fighter.

Tekken 8 Adds Raven and Azucena the Peruvian Coffee Queen to Its Roster at EVO 2023
While we still don’t have a release date for Tekken 8, it was confirmed at EVO 2023 that Raven will be returning for this latest entry alongside a newcomer named Azucena the Peruvian coffee queen.
Raven first appeared in Tekken 5 and is a secret intelligence officer for the United Nations that uses ninjutsu and can attack his foes with copies of himself. As for Azucena, she really loves coffee and messing with her opponents by playfully dodging and countering with ease and devastating power.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Annonuced at EVO 2023
SNK shared the big news the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is on its way and will be the first new Fatal Fury game since 1999. We didn’t learn too much about the game or get a release date, but the accompanying teaser trailer did feature Terry Bogard and Rock Howard facing off against each other. There also appears to be teases to other characters as many voices can be heard throughout the trailer that the community are already matching to fighters.
Guilty Gear Strive Season 3 Details Revealed as It Reaches 2.5 Million Players Globally
Guilty Gear Strive’s third season got detailed at EVO 2023 and it was confirmed that the Jellyfish Pirates captain Johnny will be the next DLC fighter to join the game on August 24. Season 3 will also bring with it two new systems, three other characters, two new battle stages, and more.
Arc System Works also shared that Guilty Gear Strive has become its first game to exceed 2.5 million players worldwide.
Project L, Riot’s Fighting Game Based on League of Legends, Reveals Yasuo as Its Fourth Character
Riot Games revealed Yasuo as Project L’s fourth character, and the intro video showcases a character who is a master swordsman that can also manipulate the wind. Lead Champion designer Alex Jaffee also said Yasuo has “versatile stances” and “big normals” that will make him quite formidable on the battlefield.
Plankton Revealed as Next Nick All-Stars Brawl 2 Character With a Full Breakdown by Smash Pro
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is officially on its way at EVO 2023 helped reveal that SpongeBob SquarePant’s Plankton will be part of the roster when it arrives. Plankton joins new characters like Squidward Tentacles and Jimmy Neutron and he will be fighting in a mech suit with ketchup-based attacks, his computer wife Karen, lasers, and more.
