Smash Factor X – Top players to Watch at Major

Smash Factor X has kicked off for the weekend, the latest event from organizers Smash Factor. This is a tournament featuring both of the major Smash games with big finales for each. It’s a Mexican Major, but a lot of the best international players are coming to Mexico City to fight it out. We’re going to see the players currently in competition for the best Smash Ultimate player compete at this Major.

This is how the tournament will work and the biggest fighting game players attending.

Smash Factor X

Smash Factor X is an offline major taking place from July 28-30. It’s primarily devoted to the Switch fighter, but there’s a bit more at this event than just that. It’ll also feature tournaments for Street Fighter 6, Guilty Gear Strive, KoF, and FighterZ. As usual for 2023, the SF 6 event will be interesting. Especially, to see how SonicFox is faring in the new game.

The main events at the tournament though are for Ultimate and Melee, with the biggest draw definitely being Ultimate. Coming the weekend before EVO 2023, this is a great way to get some Smash action in before the other games take over for a weekend.

Ultimate at Smash Factor X

Ultimate at Smash Factor X is definitely the biggest tournament here. It’s got a prize pool of $6,242 US or $105,150 Mexican. Fittingly, we’ve got some of the very best Smash Bros players turning up here.

Two of the major names that will be in competition here are MKLeo and Sparg0. These two have been duelling at the top flight of Ultimate for over a year now. Majors like this are important for securing that number 1 rank at the next UltRank update. Sparg0 is fresh off a second-place finish at Get on My Level, but before that was knocked out early from Crown the Third by MKLeo. Will their clash go differently at Smash Factor X?

Also at the tournament is Sonix, a player who has repeatedly broken down the barriers about which Smash Bros Ultimate characters are the most visible. He just won Get on My Level after just losing Wavedash to MKLeo. He’s been on fire lately and another Major win here would secure his position of having taken Sonic the Hedgehog to the very top of Ultimate.

Melee at Smash Factor

The Melee tournament at Smash Factor X isn’t quite as big as Ultimate, but it’s still an event not to be missed. It’s got a prize pool of $20,100 Mexican or $1,193 US. There are some great players showing up though. Mang0 likely leads most fans’ expectations at the event. He’s long been a dominant Melee player and recently has been back on top with a close loss to Zain at Get on my Level. Also at Smash Factor is Hungrybox, who stands a decent chance at the prize here too.

Those are some of the key players to watch for at Smash Factor X. This is going to be one of our biggest tournaments on the horizon for Smash, but it’s only a few more weeks until Smash Con, so you don’t have too long to wait to see some rematches between these players.
