History of SDCC

Did you know SDCC got its start back in the 1970s? The SDCC non-profit founders’ goal was to cover comics but also popular art forms like sci-fi films and fantasy lit they thought deserved wider recognition. Originally called “San Diego’s West Coast Comic Convention” in 1972, the event became known as “San Diego Comic-Con” (SDCC) in 1973, and later coined “Comic-Con International: San Diego” (CCI) in 1995.

Commonly known as SDCC most commonly still today, this special convention continues to gain popularity across sci-fi, anime and fantasy fans with spectacular cosplay each year and around 130,000 people at each event.
