Full blown Rocket League extravaganza hits the Agganis Arena in Boston this weekend. The RLCS Spring Major is upon us, and 16 teams have a chance to go into this Summer as the best Rocket League team on the globe.
Seeding and bracket are already set, our Spring Major Power Rankings are in place, and it’s time to look at the opening duels and set our expectations.
RLCS 22-23 Spring Major First Round Matchups
The teams will have to fight through a stacked double elimination bracket for their share of $310,000 and RLCS qualification points. Let’s take a look at the participating teams and who they will face off against in the first round.
First Round Matches to Watch
After several lackluster regional performances, FURIA have found themselves second in the NA Regional Standings by consistently playing “mid” through the season, but rallying in the leadup to this event. They are matched with Moist, a team in a similar position over on the European side.
Both teams are midfielders in their own right, but FURIA takes the edge on showing better form closer to the event. It’s an interesting watch nevertheless.
Sticking with Group A, we also have BDS and Gen.G duke it out in an opening duel. This is an interesting match by the sheer amount of fandom both teams have at their disposal. BDS do seem like the clear favorites, especially after Gen.G’s abysmal performance throughout Spring.
RLCS 22-23 Spring Major Bracket Favorites
Our Power Rankings put Vitality and Karmine Corp as the main favorites for the event. Given how the bracket is set up, they can both push up to the Upper Bracket final without meeting and both would guarantee themselves a Top 3 finish. Vitality will likely have to face BDS early on and one of the European core three is going to the Lower Bracket.
Gen.G and FURIA are never down for the count either. Both teams are on opposing sides of the bracket, but will have a tough time getting far, unless both teams show insane performance on opening day.
