We already knew that Riot Games is stepping out of its comfort zone and taking a crack at making its own fighting game. Now we know more about the still secretive project that has the fighting game community talking.
Riot Games recently shared a new developer diary, which focuses on a new gameplay mechanic and how the project is evolving. And it seems to be coming along pretty well.
Play solo or tag in a friend, the choice is yours.

The latest developer diary reveals Project l will offer duo play, which game director Shaun Rivera describes as a bit like tag team wrestling.
“One player controls the champ on stage, and the other waits off-screen for their teammate to find the right moment to tag them in,” Rivera said in the update video.
But the duo play system does not mean you will have to play with another person to play the game, as Project L will support one-versus-one, two-versus-two, and even two-versus-one fights.
Riot Games also revealed that a playable demo will be available for those that are attending this year’s Evo. The developer revealed three characters confirmed on the Project L roster in a tweet, along with a mysterious fourth one, suggesting that Riot Games may unveil the next character at Evo next month.
Project L was announced in 2019 on the first day of that year’s Evo and is based on Riot’s popular MOBA League of Legends. Though news since its announcement has been seldom. Outside of its connection to League of Legends, Riot previously confirmed that Project L will be free-to-play, has shown a couple of gameplay trailers over the years, and confirmed that it will not reward players with NFTs.
Riot Games has yet to announce a release date and which platform(s) Project L will be available on.
