Microsoft and PayPal are expanding their partnership to let Xbox owners use Venmo as a payment option for new games, apps, and other content available on the Xbox Store.
PayPal said this new payment method is available to Xbox owners in the United States, and confirmed users can use Venmo to buy a subscription to Xbox Game Pass, with an option to either pay in full or split the payments.
Additionally, PayPal announced the PayPal’s Pay Later option is available for the Microsoft Store in the U.S., U,K,, Australia, Germany, France, Spain, and Italy. But U.S. customers have the dual option to use either Venmo or PayPal in the main Microsoft store, in addition to the Xbox storefront.
“At Microsoft, our commitment to creating the best experience for customers is at the center of everything we do, whether it’s for entertainment or productivity,” Microsoft Vice President of Global Ajith Thekadath said. “The addition of new PayPal payment method options delivers on this commitment and offers even more flexibility for customers with tools that work for them and their goals.”
Venmo being used as a payment method is interesting as the mobile payment service is more commonly used to send or receive money from your friends and family. Though in recent years Venmo has expanded to be used to split the cost of an Uber or pay for your half of the water bill, as well as with the option to buy, maintain, and sell cryptocurrency. More recently, Amazon announced it would let you use Venmo to buy stuff on its website.
