In a surprising turn of events, G2 Esports announced the release of their entire Valorant roster. This decision comes on the heels of a challenging season, where the team failed to secure a spot in the Ascension League via the NA Challenger Circuit.
The organization took to Twitter to bid a heartfelt farewell to the departing players, leaving fans and followers in a state of suspense about the future of G2 Esports in Valorant.
The team’s journey in the recent season was fraught with difficulties, culminating in their inability to qualify for the Ascension League. Despite their best efforts, the team fell short of the mark, leading to this drastic decision. The future of G2 Esports in Valorant remains uncertain, with no clear indication of whether they will return to the scene with a new roster.
Interestingly, ShahZam, was conspicuously absent from the farewell video. This is because ShahZam will be transitioning to a new role within G2 Esports as a content creator. However, this does not signal the end of his competitive career. ShahZam has expressed his intent to return to competitive Valorant once he finds a suitable opportunity.
Bad to Worse
G2 Esports was one of the key teams in the opening seasons of Valorant. They dominated the Ignition Series and were a key contender in Europe for over a year. A suprising turn of events saw the organization attempt franchising in both Europe and North America but was denied entry at the last minute mostly due to the actions of former CEO Carlos “ocelote” Rodríguez.
This all resulted in G2 losing their entire core roster and building a team in NA that was never really competitive. The organization now meets the end of the season without a roster and the future of it entirely uncertain.
We may see G2 try to rebuild and into the mix on the next run of franchising, or we might just see the organization entirely scrap the male Valorant roster.
At least Gozen is still dominating the European scene and keeps G2’s Valorant ambitions going.
