These Stunning Fan-Created Legend of Zelda Movie Posters Make Us Hope for the Real Thing

As the conversation surrounding a potential Legend of Zelda movie adaptation intensifies, IGN has taken the opportunity to spotlight some stunning examples of fan-created concept movie posters for the iconic series.

The Super Mario Bros. movie has now earned well over $1 billion dollars at the global box office, making it one of the most profitable animated movies ever made. In light of its success, its more than a little likely that other popular Nintendo IPs will make the jump to the silver screen.

Regarding the potential of a Legend of Zelda movie adaptation, Tears of the Kingdom producer Eiji Aonuma responded: “I have to say, I am interested, for sure. But it’s not just me being interested in something that makes things happen, unfortunately.” The title’s director Hidemaro Fujibayashi then added: “maybe the voice of the fans is what’s important here.”

Well it turns out that fans have been asking for a movie adaptation for quite some time now, with some artists going so far as to create gorgeous concept movie posters, many of which simultaneously pay tribute to iconic pieces of movie art. Here’s a selection of just a few of the excellent fan created movie posters that have been created over the years.

Marinko Milosevski, the talent behind the fantastic Red Dead Redemption 2 key art, has in the past created a series of stylised conceptual movie posters for entries in The Legend of Zelda franchise. These posters, along with those made for a range of ther IPs including Metroid Prime, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and Super Mario, can all be viewed on Milosevski’s website.

Christopher Ryzbul meanwhile decided to recreate the scene captured in Katsuhiro Otomo’s iconic Akira poster by crafting a bike from zonai parts using Link’s ultrahand ability. Elsewhere artists took a different approach by rendering posters in a range of ecclectic styles.

One such piece by creator Matt Vince captured the style of Studio Ghibli legend Hayao Miyazaki. These works can be viewed in full on the artist’s Tumblr page. Illustrator Amanda Oei Wells took inspiration from Tom Jung’s 1977 theatrical poster for Star Wars: Episode 4 – A New Hope for their poster, which replaces Luke Skywalker with a Master Sword-weilding Link, as Dark Beast Ganon looms overhead.
