Overwatch’s fanbase has been a bit of a low since the decision to cancel PVE, and further problems in the OWL. However, Blizzard seems to be doing something about that. It might not be the full experience fans were originally promised, but we’re getting some form of PVE with the Overwatch 2 Invasion update.
Over the week, we saw quite a few new games and expansions get announced at the Summer Games Show. One of these was Overwatch Invasion. It’s a new expansion to the free-to-play title that’s adding in PVE content and co-op missions. Alongside that, we got our first teaser for the identity of the next Overwatch 2 character!
Overwatch 2 Invasion – What is it?
Overwatch 2 Invasion is going to be a big content drop for the game. It’s including some form of PVE with co-op missions, a new support hero, and PVP game mode to join the current variety of games. The title will be a part of an upcoming season for Overwatch.
The big feature seems to be the new story content. This is going to be 3 missions. It’s not quite the full mode planned, but at least it’s something. On top of that, there’s a bonus co-op mission, similar to the ones they’ve been hosting since OW 1. You’re going through King’s Row in a mission with teammates.
The new game mode announced is the most important for OW esports. This is Flashpoint. It’s going to be available in quick play and competitive, along with having two new maps.
Alongside these new features, we also got an initial glimpse at an upcoming support hero!
When is Invasion Coming?
The Overwatch 2 Invasion update is scheduled to begin pretty soon, once we’re through the current season though. It will release on August 10th 2023. It looks like all the promised content will be there at launch, rather than being divided up between the different weeks of the update, but the exact timing isn’t clear yet.
As we get closer to release, we’re sure to get more Overwatch news about the new Hero, and just how big these missions are going to be for the PVE players.
