Today marks ten years since The Last of Us was released on the PlayStation 3. As the series turns ten, developer Naughty Dog has celebrated the milestone, but if you were hoping for news and information from the series, you’re going to be disappointed.
In a tweet, Naughty Dog announced it was celebrating the series in various ways. However, the developer tempered expectations and was direct and revealed that it will not be sharing any game development announcements today.

While no new information on new entries in the series is coming today, Naughty Dog has shared some news fans of the series might like, including a Photo Mode Collection, a partnership with Gallery Nucleus for an upcoming The Last of Us gallery tribute, and a blog post featuring some members of the original The Last of Us’ development team reflecting on the last ten years since its release.
This comes just weeks after Naughty Dog tweeted out an apology that it was not ready to show off the untitled multiplayer game set in The Last of Us universe. The statement also confirmed that Naughty Dog is working on a “brand new single-player experience” but did not specify whether or not it was a sequel to an existing property or a brand new IP.
Though a report from Bloomberg notes that The Last of Us multiplayer game has had a troubled development, noting that the “quality and long-term viability” of the project has apparently come into question. Noting that its sources claim that while the game is not canceled, “a small group remains on the project while the company reevaluates the direction.”
While we don’t have much in the form of new information new The Last of Us games, yesterday, The Last of Us Part 1’s PC port got verified on Steam Deck. Additional news that has come out this year on the franchise includes The Last of Us HBO show, which debuted in January, and was renewed second season, with showrunner Craig Mazin confirming that the events of the second game cover “more than a season’s worth of television,” implying that they will split the sequel into two or more seasons.
