MultiVersus has officially shut down until early 2024 and players have taken to social media to share their mixed feelings over its hiatus.
While the game was perceived by many to be a full release already due to its battle pass and other microtransactions, DLC characters, and so on, Warner Bros. Games announced in March it would close down as of June 25.
Now the date has been and gone, players have shared their conflicted feelings online, with most just appearing slightly sad they can’t play their favourite game for the best part of a year.
“Well ladies and gentleman, the open beta is officially over,” said Officer_Jack on Reddit. “I’ll be looking forward to the full release of MultiVersus next year.”
Other hopeful players filled the replies. “It was a pleasure to play this game and very much look forward to what this game can become next year,” said Nate_923. “Hopefully when it fully launches it’s packed full of new content and the community becomes comprised of more actual players engaging online rather than vice versa.”
Many lapsed players said they jumped back into MultiVersus for a final few games before the shutdown, while others enjoyed their regularly daily games one last time before time ran out.
It wasn’t all warm feelings, however, as some players continued to express their frustration at MultiVersus going dark after spending real money on it. “Locking people out of money they spent on your game until next year is something no company has successfuly done, for quite obvious reasons,” said one Twitter user.
No (new) release date for MultiVersus has been shared so far, meaning fans will just need to wait for further announcements.
In our 8/10 review of the open beta, IGN said: “MultiVersus may not be a must-play at social gatherings, but its refreshing team-based battles make it a great platform fighter online.”
