At the Xbox Extended Showcase today, Squanch Games announced High on Knife, a new paid DLC for its 2022 first-person shooter High on Life.
In a new post on Xbox Wire, Squanch Games CEO and studio director Mike Fridley confirmed that the DLC is set two years after the events of the base game and that “everything is totally cool until Knifey gets a package from home. Don’t ask how or why Knifey is getting mail. It’s mysterious for a reason.”
The Xbox Wire post also notes that the DLC will introduce new guns. One of them is named Harper, voiced by SNL’s Sarah Sherman, and another confirmed is B.A.L.L., who is “a weird little pinball gun operated by a gaggle of tiny gibberish-speaking freaks” who is voiced by Alex Robbins, the narrative director of High On Life.
High on Life was released last December, a console exclusive for Xbox platforms and a day-one release on Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service. A few days after its release, Microsoft confirmed that High On Life became Xbox Game Pass’ biggest launch of 2022, the biggest third-party Game Pass launch ever, and the biggest single-player game launch on Game Pass of all time.
One thing the trailer did not specify, however, is whether or not Squanch Games’ co-founder, Justin Roiland, who voiced Kenny in the base game, will reprise his role. Earlier this year, Roiland was charged with domestic violence. Following the news, several companies cut ties with Roiland; this includes Adult Swim, which announced that it had dismissed Roiland, who co-created the adult animated show Rick and Morty, and announced that it would recast his roles in future seasons. While Squanch Games announced, Roiland resigned from the company on January 16, 2023. In March, the charges brought against Roiland were dropped.
In our High on LIfe review, which we gave an 8/10, we said, “Not all of its jokes find their punchline, but with memorable boss fights, unique alt-fire abilities and exploration, and way more terrible movies to watch than I expected, this wacky journey is definitely worth your time.”
High on Knife is “coming soon,” according to Squanch Games.
