Gunning down swarms of the shambling undead is one of gaming’s simpler guilt-free pleasures; these mindless husks left behind by human beings have as few qualms about being blasted away as they do tucking into your intestines, making them the perfect enemy to slaughter enmasse.
But in the apocalyptic scenarios where zombies exist, you—as one of the survivors—should have to think about rebuilding the world as well as seeing out the old one. That’s the daunting mission that awaits you in Doomsday: Last Survivors, the zombie survival game from veteran developer IGG. With a mixture of real-time run-and-gun play and colony-building strategy, Doomsday is an exciting, endless struggle that over 10 million players have already enlisted for on mobile.
Now Doomsday is coming to PC for the first time, with all the high resolutions and precise mouse-and-keyboard control that offers, so there’s never been a better time to join the fight for survival.

To start with, you’ll be picking from several grizzled survivors. From the chainsaw-wielding Catherine Calamity to army veteran Capt. Russell, by way of powerhouse tattooed sumo wrestler Raigoro, there’s no lack of colourful characters to play as. If you get choice paralysis about who to go with, then don’t worry! You’ll get to recruit more as you progress through the game.
You’ll be sending this ragtag bunch out on missions into the zombie-infested ruins of the apocalypse, searching for supplies, progressing each character’s storyline, and (of course) mowing those mindless zombies down into gore paste. These segments are played in real-time from an old-school top-down perspective. You’ll be relying on each character’s unique abilities to survive the hordes, as well as putting down barricades and turrets to control the undead traffic and slow down their relentless approach. There’ll even be a few puzzles for you to complete as you progress through the levels.
Survive these missions, and you’ll be rewarded with XP for your heroes, as well as supplies for your shelter, which is where the other major aspect of Doomsday comes in.

Returning from missions, you’ll need to start upgrading your base quickly if you’re to survive out there. The base-building segment is played from a gorgeously rendered isometric perspective (recalling those late 90s classics like Age of Empires) as you secure your perimeters, as well as build barracks, police stations, farms, and hospitals in your bid to preserve humanity.
Even back at your base, however, you’re not completely safe. As you explore the fog around your base in the hope of finding places to expand, you’ll also stumble upon zombie hordes in the wilderness. When disturbed, they’ll start marching towards your shelter, so you better make sure those defences are up and those turrets are fully loaded because things can get very messy very quickly.
It won’t be easy, but if anyone’s going to manage it’ll be a stalwart PC gamer like you. With Doomsday being free to play, you have nothing to lose by joining the struggle for survival right now. You can download Doomsday: Last Survivors from the game’s official site, Google Play, and the Apple App Store, with the game seamlessly syncing between PC and mobile, letting you keep fighting wherever you are.
The game’s community of survivors is also holed up on Facebook and Discord, so you can join them over there to start planning your survival strategies for the biggest zombie apocalypse around.
