Rayman is one of the most requested new fighters in Smash Bros. Even though he’s already made it in the game as a smaller part. However, a Rayman Super Smash Bros Ultimate fighter inclusion does seem like a perfect fit!
The Smash roster containis so many major characters from platform games. Rayman is a notable omission though. He’s been in games for decades at his point and has proven to be one of the most enduring characters. So why isn’t Rayman in Smash as a full fighter? And what are the chances of him making the Smash Bros character roster in the future.
Is Rayman in Smash Bros?
Rayman is in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, but as a Spirit character. This is a way of including a character, but kind of just through a png in the game files! A spirit is a themed fight in the World of Light mode.
Members of the actual fighters roster are modified to provide a facsimile of the character or a fight themed around their characteristics. That’s the limit of Rayman’s inclusion in Smash Bros Ultimate. He also appeared as a trophy in Smash for Wii U.
Rayman as a fighter isn’t a thing, yet.
He does seem like a good pick for a future addition to the game, especially when you consider how fun some fan moveset concepts have been. However, there is some stuff working against him.
Rayman is an iconic character from one generation of gaming in particular. He hasn’t stuck around though. While recognisable, output of Rayman games is much more scares now.
Since the 2010s, a lot of Rayman’s appearances have been through the Raving Rabbits, a spin-off of his franchise. More recently we have games like Rayman Legends, a fantastic retro platformer which has inexplicably never received a follow up in the ten years since its release. Despite the high quality of recent games, Rayman definitely isn’t the most recognisable character to newer gamers. There are other fan-favorite newcomers like Crash in Smash Bros that have come back to prominence after a break though! Don’t write Rayman in Smash Bros off too quickly.
None of this, has stopped fans requesting him in Smash Bros.
Nintendo Responds to Fan Letter
Back in 2021, a fan particularly keen on seeing Rayman in Smash Bro Ultimate wrote to Nintendo. He got a reply, which prompted a lot of discussion. The reply did seem like a form letter and made very little comment on the prospect of Rayman showing up, but it’s cool to see an actual reply!

Rayman Smash Bros Ultimate Mods
Rayman might not be in Smash Bros Ultimate, but as a loved character fans have tried to fix that.
There is a fan made mod of Rayman in Smash Bros elevates him beyond the spirit he is, and into a full fighter! He’s far from the weirdest Smash mod character, there’s even an Among Us in Smash one out there. It’s cool to see Rayman pop up in the game proper, even if it’s just from a mod.
Rayman in Other Fighting Games
Rayman might not be in Smash Bros ultimate, but the character has actually appeared in a lot of other games. Including some of the best fighting games out there. He made appearances in other games, including Ubisoft’s premier fighting game Brawlhalla.
That title has a huge esports scene and a lot of similarities to Smash Bros So while Rayman hasn’t made it into Nintendo’s crossover fighter, he’s still had a chance to duke it out.
