Smash Bros might not have a major circuit this year but it’s still got more events going on than most fighting game esports. We’ve just wrapped up Low Tide City, and already have Battle of BC 5 on the horizon!
The tournament is going to be a Smash Bros event in Vancouver Canada, featuring some of the top players in both Melee and Ultimate. It’s starting up on May 19, and running all weekend through to May 21.
The tournament is organized by Galint Gaming. They’ve been behind events like the Galint Melee Open and past Battle of BC tournaments. There’s a total prize pool of just over $20,000 CAD. That’s spread over singles and doubles for both games, with huge rosters of playing showing up for both sides of Battle of BC 5.
Melee at Battle of BC 5
The Melee tournament at Battle of BC has a slightly smaller prize pool, but it promises to be just as big as the Ultimate event. There’s a singles and doubles tournament. A lot of the top Smash Bros players currently active are attending. There’s Jmook, Zain, aMSa, Hungrybox, and Cody Schwab. aMSa and Zain meeting here is particularly exciting. These are two of the main contenders for the current best active player in Smash. Especially after aSMa’s incredible recent runs have pushed him ahead.
Ultimate
Smash Bros Ultimate will also be featured at the Battle of BC! There’s a $9,765 prize for singles here and an extra $3,450 for doubles. Just like in Melee, those attending are a who’s who of Smash Bros in 2023
At the event, we’ve got acola, Sparg0, Tweek, MKLeo, Sonix and more. MKLeo has often dominated Smash Ultimate competitions, but more recently both acola and Sparg0 have proven they’re contenders for the top spot. Having all the major players in one bracket like this is the best way to see the balance of power right now.
Battle of BC Stream
The Battle of BC is going to be broadcast live for both Melee and Ultimate. You can find the official stream, with both games and all tournaments getting broadcast.
The line-up for Battle of BC promises a climatic tournament. We’ve got most of the top currently active players attending in both games. For those who have been ascending this year, it’s a chance to prove they’ve cemented their spots at the top of the field.
