It’s way past Spring and Dota 2 fans were aching for Icefrog to finally announce the Dota 2 Update 7.33.
Meanwhile, the DreamLeague Season 19 is currently underway with the most crucial matches going live this weekend, and a whole new patch to learn in 24-hours or less.
The Dota 2 Update 7.33 is live
Unlike patches, which have alphabetic versions, Dota 2 Updates have a much bigger impact on the overall game. Whether it’s new mechanics, item slots or even heroes, the Dota 2 update 7.33 will surely be a massive change to everything we know about competitive play.
This means players and teams have a lot of reading and brainstorming to do once the update released. And be sure to expect Purge’s 24-hour-long breakdown video on the Dota 2 7.33 Update (thanks Purge!).
DreamLeague S19 to give us a first preview
While we can wait for Purge to explain new mechanics and gameplay, the teams at DreamLeague S19 will likely have to quickly adapt to the new changes. Old meta, such as Rubick, Disruptor, and Beastmaster could become unviable quickly.
Teams that rely heavily on meta, struggle during new updates because not every captain is a drafting mastermind. Even if Gaimin Gladiators and Team Liquid are the current fan favorites, an upset isn’t impossible to occur.
If there’s one captain or drafter that has a few tricks up his sleeves, it’s the humble Andreas “Cr1t-” Nielsen. Having been coached by the retired Clinton “Fear” Loomis, Cr1t- is highly regarded for his capability at dynamically shifting his builds on pos-4 support. Additionally, the second brain of Shopify Rebellion is Tal “Fly” Aizik, who also has drafting experience, making them the select few teams with two formidable drafters.
Dota 2 Update 7.33 Expectations
Now, if you aren’t following the DreamLeague S19, the Dota 2 Update 7.33 is still a noteworthy topic to consider. For one, we are glad that the Meteor Hammer trend can finally die down. The current Dota 2 gameplay is already diverse as is, compared to what we had before the Outposts, Neutral Items, Backpack Slots, Talent Tree, Aghanim’s Shard, and Scepter abilities.
As exciting as it is to envision new mechanics in Dota 2 Update 7.33, chances are the hit-or-miss nature of changes may break the game quickly. Certain heroes might get powerful abilities that players pick them solely for their Shard or Scepter abilities.
A blatant example was Riki’s Shard ability, which is a long-ranged sleep disable. Excluding his Shard ability, Riki is not viable as carry or support. Yet, we still see competitive players pick him as a roaming support.
Imagine all the possibilities players have to figure out on short notice.
Frankly, the current state of Dota 2 is diverse and heroes are no longer confined to their primary role. This is a sign of viable meta and opens up the playing field for unique playstyles; A change this big will certainly change the state of the game.
