2023 has shaped to be a huge year for fighting games. Big new titles on the horizon like Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 are pointing towards a real renaissance for the genre. Tekken 8s is a title we know a bit less about though. The Tekken 8 release date and other key information are still a bit of a mystery. Most recently though we’ve got a full trailer which has cleared up a few things.
This is what we know about the Tekken 8 release date, the features and roster coming, and when we’ll get the competitive switch over to the new title.
Tekken 8 Getting Closer to Release
Tekken 8 is going to be the next instalment in the long-running iconic fighting game franchise. The details shown look like it’ll be the most polished entry to date with new mechanics that will open Tekken up to a whole new audience. When are we going to actually get our hands on the game though?
The current aim for the Tekken 8 release date is supposed to be the fiscal year of 2023, it’s important to keep in mind this isn’t the same as calendar year! It could release in the first quarter of 2023 by Japanese financial years, and still be dropping in 2024. It also seems there’s going to be some space between Tekken and Street Fighter 6 release dates, as direct competitors don’t do great releasing in the same week.
While there isn’t an official release date yet, we can definitely narrow it down through all these clues.
When is the Tekken 8 Release Date?
The most likely release date for Tekken 8 is going to be the latter half of 2023 or the early months of 2024.
In terms of what content we’re getting, there’s a bit more information. We already know quite a bit about the Tekken 8 characters that are hitting the game, and even some of new mechanics thanks to the trailer.
Tekken 8 esports is anticipating a boost in funding
The Tekken 8 release date means most of the current spread of fighting game esports tournaments aren’t going to feature the game. It’ll likely be next year when we start to see that heat up.
Once we do move on to Tekken 8 though, we might be getting a boost to prizes. Devs behind the game have spoken about how the increased Street Fighter prize pool has affected things. They’ve said they’re committed to spreading the prizes out, so a wider esports community can support more players. However, while they won’t have a single huge prize on the level of street Fighter, we can probably expect an increase from what Tekken 7 is currently at.
Once we know more about how things are developing, we’ll likely have a clearer picture. For now though, that window of late 2023 to early 2024 is likely our best guess for the Tekken 8 release date.
