After fans raised some doubts about champion restrictions, Riot gave an update regarding the two LoL supports that will be disabled at MSI.
These two supports will be disabled at LoL MSI 2023
Most teams have already locked in their spot at MSI and they will be preparing for the tournament which will kick off in the early Mat. That said, fans were wondering about the status of Yuumi and Milio coming into the tournament, considering that the first was reworked and the other was introduced recently to League.
Some fans were speculating that the latter would not make it to MSI due to the rule stating that if a champion hasn’t been enabled in the playoffs for all four major regions, they cannot be enabled for the ensuing international tournament. It happened with Pantheon a few years ago, and Riot Games confirmed the restriction in a public post on April 19th.
For Yuumi, on the other hand, the reasoning is a little more specific. According to the devs, “Yuumi’s midscope isn’t quite ready for pro play yet, so rather than risk having an unturned and disruptive champion, she will be disabled.”
Throughout the last season, Riot always had trouble balancing out Yuumi: she would either be pick-or-ban status, or she would be buried among the support champions. Despite their latest rework, the champion is still not in a balanced state for competitive play.
That being said, fans should expect both champions to join the champion rosters for the upcoming 2023 Summer Split. With other champions getting mid-scope updates like Rell and Neeko, we might see some of the less popular champions jumping on Summoner’s Rift in a few months’ time. MSI will begin on May 2nd, with the play-in stage.
