Overwatch League 2023 Broadcast Is Missing Key Platforms

The Overwatch League is about to return for its 2023 season. It’s the first since the OWL has had some major changes to its broadcast, but that hasn’t stopped Blizzard promising drops for fans tuning in. Unfortunately, the Overwatch League 2023 broadcast is missing some major platforms.

The Overwatch League 2023 broadcast is no longer tied to any specific platform. The deal to keep the game on YouTube exclusively is gone, similar to some teams dropping out of OWL for 2023. However, Twitch won’t be an option still. That’s despite there being nothing stopping another stream from happening there.

Overwatch League 2023 Broadcast Won’t be on Twitch

The opening weekend of the Overwatch League 2023 is going to be starting up on April 27th. The first round of games is already coming with drops, but they’ll only be accessible via YouTube. The Overwatch League 2023 broadcast will be the same as in previous years. Blizzard will be recreating the former exclusivity. In the past, YouTube paid $160 million for this. This year OWL is opting to do the exact same thing, but this time for free!

Call on Duty Twitch streams are available along with YouTube. There’s little stopping the same here. It’s been a frustrating move for fans. Many thought the end of the broadcast exclusivity deal would mean a return to Twitch.

A lot of people have differing opinions on YouTube vs Twitch, but being able to watch on either site that’s more convenient is much more convenient for players. Twitch is by far the biggest platform for esports streaming, and fans have long been awaiting a return to the platform from OWL.

It looks like YouTube will be the primary home for Overwatch League 2023 broadcasts. There isn’t anything stopping a Twitch stream from starting up eventually, but at least at the outset for the matches, we’re not going to have the choice.
