Mortal Kombat has a long history of polished titles across arcades, PC, and console. But what about on mobile devices?
For quite a while now, Mortal Kombat Mobile has been providing that same gory fighting game action but on mobile devices.
If you’re looking for an alternative to the normal stripped-back fighting game on mobile, this might be it. This is everything you need to know to get started. The main differences with MK Mobile and how it works.
Mortal Komabt Mobile
Mortal Kombat Mobile is the main instalment of the long-running fighting game series on mobile devices. MK is one of the top fighting games that actually have some decent representation on mobile. A lot of franchises, when transitioning to mobile, opt to alter gameplay to better suit the device.
MK mobile is still true to its source, containing a lot of elements you won’t find in the mainline game. In many ways, though it is pretty authentic to the traditional Mortal Kombat experience.
The game’s main twist is having players compete using teams of characters. You have to collect the individual Mortal Kombat characters, then assemble a team of three rather than fighting one on one. The game has elements of card games in here with different character customization and more unit versus unit gameplay rather than the test of skill in a raw fighting game.
Mortal Kombat mobile features all of the characters you know from the main series. On top of that, there are also loads of crossover characters included in this version of the game.
Main Differences Between Normal MK and MK Mobile
The main difference between MK Mobile and the standard fighting game is the gameplay. The normal MK is played by selecting a character, then fighting in a live match selecting moves and trying to pull of combos. It’s the traditional 2D style that’s made it one of the biggest fighting game franchises. Whereas mobile Mortal Kombat instead moves the characters over to a more card or unit battle kind of fight.
Players collect characters like function kind of like card units. They then put together a team from these three characters and compete against other players in this style. The gameplay allows the visuals of Mortal Kombat Mobile to stay as high-quality as the console versions of the game. You’ll find the same fatalities and impressive special attack animations, but less personal control over characters.
Is there a traditional Mortal Kombat on Mobile?
Mortal Kombat Mobile is a fun instalment in the franchise for mobile gamers. It isn’t quite the same type of 1-v-1 gameplay you’ll expect from a fighting game though. So, is there a more traditional experience available on the platform?
In terms of what’s currently supported, there isn’t a full MK mobile. The developer of the games have largely sought to keep the core gameplay to consoles, PCs, and arcades. With mobile devices getting more powerful and options like gamepads for mobile phones becoming easier, it is possible we’ll get a full Mortal Kombat mobile at some point. The release of Mortal Kombat 12 will definitely see a refresh for the whole brand. For now though, MK Mobile is still receiving updates pretty regularly, while gameplay is different the world and characters are still quite familiar to fans of the franchise.
