Los Angeles-based esports organization CLG is going to be hit with a large wave of layoffs, except for its League of Legends Championship (LCS) team. The layoffs were first confirmed by LoL content creator and independent interviewer Travis Gafford.

Layoffs have also hit CLG – LoL team will be the only operational team left
In a video released on Monday evening, Gafford claims that CLG staff were informed on Monday that they will be laid off and that LoL team, which is currently competing in the LCS, will be the only operational thing starting from next week.
The content creator also claimed that LA-based esports organization NRG Esports is either interested in purchasing the franchise slot or will work with the team. Owned by Madison Square Garden Entertainment, CLG will either be sold or shut down at a date to be determined, according to Travis Gafford. That said, he cannot confirm what is going to happen to the CLG brand.
“It’s unclear if MSG (Madison Square Garden) still owns the IP of CLG or if NRG, seemingly, will,” he said. “Those details are still developing. I will say that the NRG stuff really surprises me because I’ve heard from a couple of people that they were in an “interesting” financial state not too long ago so I don’t know if this means that there’s another buyer that came in NRG or whatever, but I do think that they story might be a little bigger than just NRG acquiring the league spot.” he continued.
CLG currently has operating teams across various esports titles, inclduing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (which will be replaced by Counter-Strike 2 next year), Fortnite, Valorant, Apex Legends, Super Smash Bros, as well as multiple content creators.
