It was revealed recently that the Call of Duty League will return to YouTube but still remain on Twitch, streaming simultaneously across both platforms. It’s an effort to make the League as accessible as possible, given that in recent years, the split streaming practices have alienated some fans that prefer either platform. From April 7th, every match in the Call of Duty League will be broadcasted on both platforms and for the most part, the community is happy about the news.
In February, there were rumours circulating that suggested the Call of Duty League was arranging another exclusivity deal that would lock the League into a partnership with YouTube. It seems that this is no longer the case, as an exclusivity deal certainly wouldn’t allow the League’s organisers to broadcast events on Twitch at the same time. In recent months, CDL viewership has been on the up, breaking records consistently as time goes on.
Will this ‘simulcast’ be the best move for the League?

During the earliest days of March, the Call of Duty League Major III tournament played out, and it produced record-breaking viewership figures. It was a tense showdown between the best Call of Duty players in the world, and ultimately, a peak viewer count of 335,170 users was recorded. It was the most popular Call of Duty esports event in history, beating out the Call of Duty League 2020 Finals, the previous record-holder, by around 5,000 viewers.
There have been many changes made across the board during the downtime between Major III and Major IV, and the League is becoming more competitive than ever before. There’s a lot of rookie talent coming into the fold, which fans are impressed with, and this latest change only serves to make them happier. There are still some concerns regarding the handling of some of the League’s Major events, but for the most part, the esports side of Call of Duty is the best it has ever been.
Challengers is on the up, and the Call of Duty League is becoming increasingly popular. With each new season released in Modern Warfare II, things seem to be improving, and already, the game is a long way from the sorry state it launched in back in October 2022.
To The Future
We’re now on the road to the Major IV tournament, and it’ll be the first one ever to be broadcasted across both YouTube and Twitch. It has the potential to be the most-viewed esports tournament ever in the Call of Duty space, beating out Major III with ease. Before we know it, we’ll be staring down the Call of Duty League Championship and beyond. At present, the League’s organisers are still trying to determine where the Championship showdown will take place.
It’s going to be a busy year for Call of Duty.
