Bacon Time leaves PUBG Mobile Esports despite being a partnered team

It’s barely been a few days since the dust has settled for the first-ever season of PUBG Mobile’s partnered league, the Super League (PMSL).

One team has already announced that they are leaving the game. In a shocking announcement, Bacon Time, a partnered team from Thailand, announced on Facebook that it was terminating its team.

Trouble at Bacon Time?

The exact reason behind this decision wasn’t revealed. Based on the statement, it appears that the organization, despite being one of 15 partnered PUBG Mobile teams, are leaving the game.

“We would like to thank all our Bacon PUBG Mobile players for the journey together since 2021 as racers, friends, brothers and sisters. Further than that we would like to thank all the fans who shared smiles, and happiness which is what made us strive for the past three years. It was a difficult decision for us to inform everyone.”

Bacon didn’t have a good time at the PMSL Spring 2023. They placed ninth and failed to qualify for the PMWI. However, just this reason alone doesn’t make sense for them to leave the game. The team is a partnered one in the PMSL, which means that it gets a reserved slot in the league despite its position.

And it’s unlikely that Bacon is leaving the game because it doesn’t see it growing. The PMSL Spring 2023 has been an immensely successful affair, based on the viewership alone. The tournament peaked at 441,000, per Esports Charts, almost double since the previous SEA championship. It had an average viewership of 136,000.

To see Bacon Time leaving the game after this spurge in viewership comes as a big surprise. Owned by the esports company, Ampverse, they previously fielded rosters in three games, namely Free Fire, PUBG Mobile, and Arena of Valor.

Bacon Time is now only left with AoV.

Will Tencent reveal another partner team for the PMSL?

When Tencent announced that partnered teams in March, it emphasized a long-term association with the 15 organizations. Now, it seems that its time with Bacon has come to an end. It remains to be seen if Tencent will partner with another team. Alternatively, it can allow one more organization to qualify for the PMSL Fall 2023 through the open qualifiers.

Bacon Time entered PUBG Mobile back in 2021, picking up a fourth position in its first season in the PMPL Thailand. While they have managed to dominate locally over the years, the team has faltered internationally. Their highest position in a par Southeast Asian tournament was the Spring 2022 SEA Championship, where they placed 5th.

The team also managed to qualify for the PMGC 2022 but were unable to put up a good performance. They were knocked out of the tournament in a lowly 25th place.
