Collision 2023 kicks off this weekend, a Smash Bros tournament with prizes at stake for both Melee and Ultimate.
It arrives coming hot off the heels of a number of Steve bans, yet not at this year’s Collision where he’s dominating the early seeding. This is the first Collision to offer both Melee and Ultimate for quite a few years. It’s promising to be a tournament bigger than the last few years.
The tournament features decent prize pools across the board, but also a slot at smash Ultimate Summit 6. Even without larger circuits, these invites are helping to keep some progression. This is how it’s going to work and which players to keep an eye out for at the event.
Collision 2023
Collision 2023 is a premier event for Smash Bros, taking place yearly in New Jersey. This will be held over March 10-12. It’s going to have a few different events with both singles and doubles for Melee and Ultimate.
The Ultimate side of things has a prize pool of $9,285 for singles and $1,700 for doubles. Over in Melee, that’s $7,395 for singles and $1,860 for doubles. Collision 2023 will be played in a pretty standard format, pools followed by a final bracket.
Alongside the main tournament, Friday and Saturday will feature a few side events. These will be Melee Crews, Giant Melee, Squad Strike, and Ultimate Crews. You can catch all of it over on the official Collision Twitch Chanel once things start up.

Is Steve Banned at Collision 2023?
In the run-up to Collision 2023, we’ve seen an increasing number of tournaments ban Steve. Collision was one of the first, but that’s not going to be in play for this year. Rather than reorganize the entire roster of attending players though, the ban has been delayed until next year.
This makes it the last session for Steve at Collision! From the looks of the attendees, players are going to be taking advantage of this last chance and all the new Steve tech. The character is the most represented across the preliminary seeding. Although, most of the top players attending are using other characters so we could still see a Steve-less final bracket. Plenty of the best Smash Bros characters have multiple players at the event too.

The Collision 2023 tournament already has a pretty impressive roster of players lined up. We’ve got some of the best Smash Bros players in the game showing up for the event. These are some of the top fighters to watch out for over the event.

The Ultimate side of things has some of the top players, with three of the very best showing up. MKLeo and Sparg0 spent the early part of 2022’s tournaments neck and neck after Sparg0’s win at that year’s Collision. This is an early look at how these two are going to be ranking for the year. Collision 2023 is the chance for one of the two to push out ahead for 2023’s Majors, but the competition is steep here too.
Melee
Things are no less exciting over in Melee. 2022’s Collision didn’t feature Melee, but all the big names in Smash have come through for this return to classic Smash Bros. These are some of the top players to watch out for.
