MenaRD from the Dominican Republic won the Capcom Cup! 2nd place went to Zhen from BLG, and 3rd place was reserved for iDom from XSET.
The Capcom Cup reached its climax this past weekend. Over the week we’ve seen the top players in Street Fighter competing for their spot. Looking at overall performances, we have a good idea of who is looking strongest the season to come.
Capcom Cup IX was one of the final huge esports tournaments for Street Fighter V. Players went through loads of qualifiers to make it to that stage. MenaRD won his second Capcom Cup overall.
Capcom Cup Bracket Finalists
The players starting the bracket on the winner’s were those who triumphed in the group stages. Everyone on that side has had a strong performance, but a few players really stood out even amongst this crowd.
Spanish player Takamura was definitely a highlight up until the bracket stage. He won each of his matches in the group stages, leaving 5-0 against his challengers in the first Group. Takamura has had some strong results lately, including winning the Crossover last October. He’s really risen in expectations across Street Fighter V. He’s come from being ranked 45th in 2016-2019 PGRSF rankings to a real contender here. Vxabo has an equally impressive performance in Group C, but even managed to lose fewer individual rounds, only dropping 2 to 10. EndingWalker in Group D repeated that feet along with Zhen in Group G. AngryBird was only marginally behind also taking it 5-0.
However, all the dominant players in Groups managed to fumble into the bracket stage.
MenaRD for example, didn’t have the close-to-flawless runs that these others have. Yet, he picked up all the matches when it really mattered and got the gold in the end. The Bandits player had some good rankings in a few tournaments on the way here, including winning Blink Respawn 2022.
Notable Bracket Matches
There is too many highlights to go through. I propose you simply watch the entire final day to get your dose of SF.
The early rounds of the Capcom Cup IX bracket had some good matches going on. Vxbao and AngryBird facing each other in the first round, was a banger to watch. VegaPatch had a hard ride making it up from the Losers Bracket up to the Top 8 in nail biting series against Lizard and Kawano.
iDom the 2019 Winner had a full bracketrun through the lower bracket to get bronze. Only nuances decided his Losers Final match and he could have been finalist himself if luck was on his side.
