IG vs JDG – Saturday 08:00 CET

IG and JDG will face each other in the LPL Match of the week. The two are first and second place in the spring split standings and this match might decide who is the actual no. 1 in the league. While everyone thought JDG was going to dominate the LPL this year, they dropped unexpectedly against WBG, taking their first loss of the year.

JDG – Even the greatest can mess up

In last week’s preview, we expected JDG to beat WBG in what everyone thought was the match of the split. While it was indeed a banger series (recommend everyone to go and watch the full series), the result was definitely unexpected. JDG dropped 2-1 to WBG in the most unthinkable way, throwing in Game 3 one of the biggest leads, and ultimately letting WBG make the comeback.

What JDG showed in that series against WBG was a little bit of greediness and overconfidence. With the huge lead they had, they wanted to close out the series but went overboard during some plays, forcing too much and getting caught in the process. Despite that, however, JDG are still looking like the best team: not everyone can generate such a great gap in the early game against another top-tier team. The main takeaway, though, is that JDG is not as perfect as people thought.

IG – YSKM vs 369

IG are going to have a big test ahead of them: depending on how they play against JDG, it will potentially decide their true value as a team for the LPL Spring Split.

“IG is definitely a playoff team, but are they strong enough to fight for the top?” – This is the question that everyone should focus on.

By looking at the individual matchups, the top lane is probably going to be the most hyped one. YSKM, the rising rookie, will face what is considered the best top laner in the LPL, 369. While we already know how IG’s top laner has some champion pool issues when not on his pocket picks (Irelia, Jax, Fiora), he’s also showing improvements on weakside duty. That said, it will come down to how the two teams want to draft: will JDG want to target YSKM, or will IG try to create a strategy around this factor? It’s going to be the key for the series.

Predictions and Preview

Despite JDG losing their last series, it’s unlikely that the team will make similar mistakes going forward. Considering how they have shown up so far and teams slowly figuring out IG’s weaknesses, JDG is still the favorite in this series.

That said, what IG should be looking at is whether they have the potential to take at least one game off from JDG. If they can, then IG are likely going to stay in the top 4/5 for the rest of the split. Otherwise, we might see their magic slowly fade away.

Predictions: JDG 58% | IG 42%
