CDL Major IV Will Take Place in Columbus, Ohio

For what seemed like the longest time, the location for the fourth Major of the Call of Duty League 2023 season was unconfirmed. It was originally going to be hosted by the New York Subliners, but that plan was scrapped several weeks ago. Now, the League has emerged to confirm that Major IV will take place in Columbus, Ohio, and it won’t be hosted in front of a live audience. It’ll be a LAN event, of course, but no fans will be in attendance.

There were several locations being touted for the hosting of Major IV, including Seattle, Miami, and even London, England. It’s a blow to fans that are within easy travelling distance of Columbus, but now, between April 20th and April 23rd, Major IV will take place without them in attendance.

Major IV Is Locked In

At the moment, competitors are marching steadily towards Major III, which is being hosted in Texas by OpTic. There’s a lot to play for and the CDL standings are loaded at what is the middle of the season. It has been a challenging year thus far for what are some of the best Call of Duty players in the world, but it isn’t over yet. Recently, news surfaced that The Guard, owners of the CDL’s LA Guerrillas, had laid off almost all of its employees.

It was then confirmed that if the LA Guerrillas organisation doesn’t find a buyer by the end of the season, the team will be closed down. However, the current roster remains relatively determined, according to the squad’s frontman, Arcitys:

There’s still plenty left to play for this year, though. Once we’re through Major III, we’ll hit Major IV in Columbus, Ohio, and then Major V, which is being hosted by Toronto Ultra. It’s unconfirmed yet when the Call of Duty League Championship will land, but it’s expected to be a little earlier than usual, potentially dropping in mid-to-late June.

What’s Happening with Call of Duty?

Recently, many professional players have called it quits on Call of Duty. Some of the top streamers in the space have backed away from the game, and long-time pro players, such as Scump and Methodz, have retired completely. It was thought for a while that Modern Warfare II would be a two-year title, but owing to recent leaks, it has been suggested that an entirely new, premium Call of Duty game will release in 2023.

Over time, Infinity Ward, Raven Software, Treyarch, and other associated studios are working hard on making Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 better, but it’s a long journey. While CDL viewership figures remain higher than they’ve been in years, the general opinion of the current Call of Duty ecosystem is that things could definitely improve a lot more.
