When Broodmother comes, you best be running to your tower. She is on the same level of last-pick Phantom Lancer without an enemy Earthshaker or Huskar without an enemy Axe. Yet, she remains a niche hero with only 1.59% pick-rate and 48.16% win-rate in the pubs.
Broodmother is certainly among the few heroes, without a proper counter, will absolutely snowball the game.
Broodmother Dota 2 Skills
Nevertheless, just because her overall numbers look unimpressive, it doesn’t mean she is unviable. For starters, Broodmother has one of the best lane sustainability, especially useful in the offlane, where your opponents constantly harass.
Spin Web, lets her create webs in the lane, which offers health regen and movement speed bonus. It also offers free movement, which is great for escaping into the trees.
Insatiable Hunger was the former ultimate, that got “demoted” into a level up skill, offering between 40% – 100% lifesteal.
Silken Bola, an offense skill that slows the enemy, amplifies damage received when landing and creates debuffs on the target.
Spawn Spiderlings, as the name says, lets Broodmother spawn small spiderlings to assist you in combat. Once her normal skill, it’s is now the ultimate. Although many players consider this a massive nerf to her general gameplay, we reckon it’s a buff.
As an offlaner, having that kill potential with a fitting support combo can lead to a better offlane experience. Thus, it’s crucial that Broodmother Dota 2 players don’t miss out on this opportunity.
Broodmother Dota 2 Guide
Contrary to the general Dota 2 players’ win rate, a certain pro player has made wonders with Broodmother recently. It is none other than the golden kid, Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf, who currently plays as Nigma’s offlaner.
Ammar has a whopping 85% win rate across 12 matches in high Immortal rank, and he’s not even having a good week with other heroes. This is a testament to how effective Broodmother players can be when they play it the right way.
Early game dominance is of utmost priority for Broodmother offlanes, for which Ammar decides to buy two Wraith Bands instead of one. It’s just such great value in stats for the early game, even though it’s often overlooked by most players, who just purchase one before rushing Soul Ring.
Since Brood’s spammable skill, Spiderlings isn’t available until Level 6, she doesn’t need Soul Ring immediately. Anyways, Ammar’s double-Wraith build gives overwhelming dominance over the enemy hard carry, who couldn’t even trade hits equally.
Keeping up with the theme of dominance, this build means Broodmother has an extremely good early game, such that the enemy probably abandoned the lane altogether. As such, opting for more Spin Webs is great when Brood eventually finds a target to chase. Silken Bola is also great for its offense, so prioritize this over Insatiable Hunger.
Broodmother Dota 2 Late Game Items
Broodmother getting a new item guide is just as crucial too. A good Broodmother lane usually lets you get Orchid within 13 minutes, which synergizes well with Insatiable Hunger’s 40% lifesteal at merely level 1. However, the true terror of Broodmother is coupled with the mob of Spiderlings that hit a single enemy hero. It’s an unsettling yet impressive sight to see Brood and her Spiderlings wipe out an enemy hero in just two instances.
Broodmother heavily benefits from uninterrupted attacks, so purchasing BKB is the second luxury item to buy. The magic immunity prevents most stuns and disables, letting BM go ham on enemy heroes, especially the backline supports.
There’s always the general perception of Dota 2 players that Broodmother can be countered by killing off her Spiderlings. However, Ammar’s build plays around the main hero herself being the damage-dealing carry. She even doubles down on her auto-attacks with Basher into Abyssal Blade for that powerful lockdown.
Assault Cuirass is a great alternative for split-push Brood, at least in the classic Spiderlings build. Its armor reduction applied on towers, letting Brood and her Spiderlings chip off towers effectively. However, this might not be the best item if the opponents aren’t dealing physical damage to begin with.
If the Dota 2 Broodmother game goes accordingly, your late-game item build should just have Orchid, BKB, Abyssal Blade, and perhaps Aegis of Immortal. After all, a Broodmother Dota 2 player should leave no space for the enemy team to even prevail.
Frankly, Dota 2 Broodmother would have easily been a top candidate for the best Dota 2 carries to win MMR. If only Broodmother didn’t require a fairly long learning curve to master her playstyle and micro-ing her Spiderlings.
