Moss and Moss: Book 2 Confirmed as PlayStation VR2 Launch Titles

Enhanced versions of Moss and Moss: Book 2 will launch alongside the PlayStation VR 2 when it releases on February 22 next year, according to a new blog post on the company’s website.

The update details how the Moss developer Polyarc has worked to make the most of the upgraded capabilities of the PlayStation VR 2 to remove some of the constraints placed on the series by its predecessor’s hardware.

Both games will run in 4K at 90 fps and will feature graphical upgrades including lighting and texture improvements, and will make use of foveated rendering to reduce overall demand on the system.

The VR2 upgrade will also have an increased field of view over the originals, and will allow players to use both hands while interacting with the mousy protagonist Quill by wielding each Sense controller independently.

PlayStation’s shift to a two controller setup could make it easier to access the weapons inventory during combat, and streamline environmental interactions during puzzle sections over the original PSVR versions that relied on a PS4 DualShock pad.

Moreover the revamped titles will make use of the VR2’s eye tracking capabilities to make interactable objects glow when observed, which will prompt Quill to give scenario specific hints if you get stuck in a puzzle. The developers have also made use of the Sense controllers’ adaptive triggers in a bid to draw players deeper into the fantasy world.

“Actions will feel distinct to players as they experience the tension and weight of virtual objects while grabbing and moving them within the world,” according to the blog. “Breakable pots and barrels now respond to the amount of force being used, breaking apart once they’re squeezed enough to overcome the trigger’s resistance.”

IGN gave Moss: Book 2 an 8 when it first released in March earlier this year, stating that the second game “builds upon its predecessor nicely with a captivating world and entertaining platforming”, but was “let down primarily by the PSVR’s ageing tech.”

Moss and Moss: Book 2 are available to preorder now on the PlayStation store for £32.49, or £29.24 for those with a Playstation Plus subscription.
