At The Game Awards 2022, a new Final Fantasy 16 trailer has revealed not only new gameplay clips, but also a release date: June 22, 2023.
The new trailer showed sequences of Final Fantasy 16’s action combat system. We also got another look at the game’s epic Summon battle system, with Ifrit appearing, towering above the human characters on screen. The story featured in the trailer — which is titled ‘Revenge’ — sets up a lot of intrigue for Clive and Joshua, the two main characters of Final Fantasy XVI.
We last saw Final Fantasy 16 back in October, where the ‘Ambition’ trailer revealed how crystals (a Final Fantasty staple going back as far as the original game) factor into the story, as well as a closer look at the game’s characters, the world of Valisthea, and its multiple kingdoms.
While that world looks similar to Ivalice, the land of Final Fantasy 12 and FF Tactics, many have seen parallels between it and gritty fantasy settings such as Westeros in Game of Thrones, something we discussed in our exclusive interview with the development team.
