Sony Might Stick a PS5 Into the Honda Electric Car

Sony and Honda may have a solution for more entertainment on the go, a plan that includes integrating PlayStation 5 support in future electric cars.

In an interview with the Financial Times, president and COO of Sony Honda Mobility Izumi Kawanishi said it’s possible to integrate the PS5 into cars. The console and other Sony services are part of a greater vision to make a more entertainment-driven vehicle, competing with other electric models like Tesla.

“Sony has content, services and entertainment technologies that move people. We are adapting these assets to mobility, and this is our strength against Tesla,” Kawanishi told the Financial Times.

Sony Honda Mobility CEO Yasuhide Mizuno explained future hardware “will cater to the entertainment and network we would like to offer.”

The Financial Times also notes these new models, expected to launch in 2025, will make entertainment content part of the production process.

Sony and Honda established their joint venture earlier this year, and Kawanashi said part of their plan includes advancements in “autonomous driving.” The COO acknowledged fully autonomous driving isn’t quite there yet, and the technology “will have to evolve considerably” to achieve their vision.

The electric car market already has a few options out there to integrate gaming with your road trips. Tesla owners can play classics like 1991’s Sonic the Hedgehog, while Model X and Model S cars sport powerful enough hardware to run The Witcher 3. The company has also tested Steam integration for its vehicles.

If Sonic and the 2025 Sony-Honda wait aren’t appealing, there’s always Tesla’s new in-car karaoke system—or maybe just bring a Steam Deck.
