Riot Games unveils new VCT Game Changers EMEA format for 2023

As the 2022 season ended a while ago, Riot Games has unveiled the new VCT Game Changers EMEA format for 2023, the upcoming season. G2 Gozen lifted the Champions trophy this year and with the new system, the competition especially within the EMEA region is expected to be higher than before.

What will change next year?

The first important thing to know about the new VCT Game Changers EMEA 2023 format is that there will be four tiers within a season.

The tier list starts with VCT Game Changers EMEA: Academy and VCT Game Changers EMEA: Emergents which currently share the first tier.

Secondly, the Contenders stage is there on the third tier and the highest level in the region, Game Changers EMEA League is up there on the second tier.

Lastly, as you may have guessed, the GC Championship has found itself a place at the highest tier. It is the biggest tournament and award a GC team could achieve and the path to it has been announced by Riot Games, targeting EMEA specifically.

In-house games played through Discord

Firstly, Emergents will welcome a “Discord community” in which in-house games will be played within the Discord channel and rewards will be distributed. This aims to get as many people involved as possible in the competitive scene to spread the culture wider and reach a bigger audience, getting them ready for the VALORANT esports scene. Second on the list is the GC: Academy. Riot has announced that the academy organization will mainly focus on educating the players on their careers within the VALORANT ecosystem.

One tier higher is the Contenders challenge. Anybody is welcome to compete at Contenders as there will be open qualifiers all around the world. The best teams of the Contenders tournament will be promoted to the Game Changers EMEA League to take the competition one level higher as we will move another tier on the pyramid. These teams will decide the VALORANT EMEA power rankings for Game Changers.

Game Changers EMEA League

The GC EMEA League will feature 16 teams and Riot Games will invite the top four performers of 2022 to the competition. The other 12 teams will try to qualify for the tournament and challenge the top four performers of 2022. The final boss of the year will be the World Championship event again. The last World Champion is G2 Gozen. The EMEA team won the tournament recently and continued its domination in the scene. G2 will most likely receive an invite from Riot Games to compete at VCT 2023 Game Changers EMEA League as they had reached the regional final and also won the world championship trophy.

Riot Games has been aiming to help the Game Changers community reach a bigger audience and get better in terms of facilities and competition. The new format aims to take the scene “to the next level” and more opportunities will be there for amateur players to show their capabilities against some of the best players. Most of the players probably started climbing VALORANT ranks to get better in the game and potentially make a career out of it. The 2023 season will surely offer more opportunities for the amateur scene and this looks like a big step for the VALORANT Game Changers ecosystem’s future.
