Nintendo Switch Sales Cross 114 Million, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Nears 50 Million Units Sold

Alongside revealing that Nintendo Switch sales have reached over 114 million and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sales have nearly reached 50 million, the company has also shared it cut the console’s sales forecast for its current fiscal year by two million.

The news was revealed during Nintendo’s Fiscal Year Ending March 2023 Six Months Earnings Release, and the company confirmed it was lowering its forecast after considering production and sales performance factors.

“For Nintendo Switch hardware, we reduced our forecast by 2.00 million units to 19.00 million units,” Nintendo wrote. “While there is a gradual improvement in semiconductor and other component supplies and a recovery trend in hardware manufacturing for Nintendo Switch, taking into consideration production and sales performances thus far, we have modified the Nintendo Switch hardware sales units forecast for the fiscal year.”

Additionally, Nintendo has confirmed it is focusing on “continually working to front-load production and selecting appropriate transportation methods” to prepare for the holiday season to ensure as many consumers around the world who want a Switch will have a good chance at getting one.

Next up, software sales for Nintendo Switch have been revealed to have reached 917.59 million and sales for Switch games have been updated through September 30. Switch’s best-selling game, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, has now inched ever closer to 50 million with sales of 48.41 million.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons sits in second place with 40.17 million, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate took third place with 29.53 million, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is at fourth with 27.79 million, and Pokemon Sword and Shield have rounded out the top five with 25.37 million.

Nintendo also gave an update on software sales for the period, sharing that Splatoon 3 had sold over 7.90 million units, Nintendo Switch Sports had crossed 6.15 million units, Mario Strikers: Battle League sold 2.17 million units, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 sold 1.72 million units. It also confirmed Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold another 3.07 million and Kirby and the Forgotten Land had sold 2.61 million more units, bringing the latter’s total to 5.27 million units.

Lastly, it shared that the total number of million-seller titles on Switch – first- and third-party – during this period has reached 15 and that “software sales grew by 1.6% year-on-year to 95.41 million units. On the other hand, hardware units sold decreased by 19.2% year-on-year to 6.68 million units, due to factors such as a shortage of semiconductor and other component supplies.”
