EA Sports Cup, one of the longest-running events on the FIFA competitive scene, has concluded the first round of matches in three groups. Group B, the only group that has yet to play a match, will kick off on November 7th. So far, the most prominent team after the matches was Germany-based FOKUS Clan.
Fokus and Riders dominate Groups D and C
Action kicked off October 17th with Group C matches, including Fnatic’s games. It was curious to see how Tekkz and his partner Diogo would perform in the new year. With 1 win, 1 loss and 2 draws in the first round, the European giant is currently third in the group. Movistar Riders are first with 7 points, while Team Falcons are last with 4 points. However, in terms of gameplay, the dynamics within the group are very close and it is quite possible that the standings will change.
The team with the most points at the end of all matches was FOKUS Clan. They went undefeated, winning 3 out of 4 matches and leading Group D with a total of 10 points. In doing so, they beat two of their four opponents by 4-1 scores. On the other hand, Ajax and PSG shared second place with five points each.
Complexity Gaming ahead in Group A
It was not a good start to the EA Sports Cup for Brazilian side SPQR in Group A. They were considered one of the weakest teams on paper before the tournament and they failed to earn points in any of their 4 matches. Complexity Gaming, with Joksan and MaXe vip, managed to collect 8 points with 2 wins and 2 draws.
Group B will feature two highly anticipated teams, RBLZ Gaming and Guild Esports. The year 2022 was full of success for both teams. In July, Hope managed to win the FIFAe World Cup 2022 for RBLZ. On the other hand, nicolas99fc finished second in the same tournament and lifted the trophy in eChampions League 2022 right after. Starting on November 7th, these two teams are expected to top Group B.
The Group Stage of the EA Sports Cup will conclude on December 5. The top 2 teams in their groups will qualify for the Knockout Stage, which will be played as Single Elimination.
