Modern Warfare 2 has its fair share of multiplayer modes. From Quick Play versions of popular modes to larger scale battles like Invasion, MW2 has a mode for everyone. Except for fans of Hardcore. MW2 does not have a Hardcore mode at launch. Players hope a future update will see it added to the game, such as the start of Season 1.
What is Hardcore mode?
You might be one who enjoys jumping into Quick Play or 3rd Person Moshpit and haven’t even noticed that Hardcore is missing. You might not even be aware of what the mode is. If you are wondering why so many are upset with its exclusion, here is a rundown of Hardcore.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare introduced Hardcore to the franchise. The gameplay is merciless and provides a bit more realism than other modes. You have significantly less health and even the weakest weapons can take you down with ease.
How to check your KD in MW2
Want to check your KD in MW2? You’ll need to keep track of it yourself for now and hope a way to see it is added to the game in the future.
The HUD is missing many of its elements and in the majority of Call of Duty games, Hardcore mode has only provided a look at objective-based items in the HUD. On top of that, Friendly Fire is turned on so you better watch out with your Hail Mary frag grenades and corner pre-firing.
Hardcore Team Deathmatch, Headquarters and Search & Destroy have been a mainstay of the playlist since its inclusion in the series. Some titles have even included Hardcore versions of Domination, Capture the Flag, Free-For-All and Kill Confirmed.

There are quite a few things absent from Modern Warfare 2 that players are hoping to see when Season 1 kicks off. Season 0 is underway with a distinct lack of a Barracks area to see career stats and no Hardcore playlist in sight.
MW2 does not have its Hardcore mode and there has only been a slight indication of when it may arrive. Many believe that Infinity Ward’s mention of “Tier 1” modes coming to Season 1 is a hint at Hardcore making its way to the game.
A Call of Duty blog post was updated to state that the Tier 1 mode will launch alongside Season 1. The post reads:
Tier 1: A Tier 1 Playlist is designated within a Playlist’s name and offers a more challenging experience compared to traditional Multiplayer. Operators have less health and limited HUD elements, and friendly fire is on. These elements are consistent in all game modes that support the Tier 1 variant.

It seems more like a redesign reveal rather than just a hint. This is more than likely replacing what was once known as Hardcore. Tier 1 has essentially the same aspects to it, but with a brand new name to fit in with Modern Warfare 2. Expect it to be available on November 16, 2022 with Season 1.
