Call of Duty DMZ money glitch lets players make over $1m in seconds

A new glitch has been found in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s DMZ mode. The bug allows players to trick the game into giving them well over $1m of in-game currency.

DMZ is a new addition to Call of Duty. Infinity Ward released the mode with the start of Season 01 of Modern Warfare 2. There were always going to be teething issues with the franchise never delving into the type of gameplay that DMZ features.

The DMZ game mode plays very similarly to Escape From Tarkov. It’s PvPvE, with AI and other real enemies occupying Al Mazrah, the same map that Warzone 2 is set on. Players can complete missions to earn rewards in and out of the DMZ game mode. Players load into the mode in teams of three, with just 66 real players on the map, compared to Warzone’s 150.

These rewards vary from new weapons to double XP tokens. There is also a very loose storyline to the DMZ mode with factions included to theme the missions included.

Editor’s Note: While DMZ is a non-competitive mode the intentional use of any glitch could be considered a cause for the banning of an account, so discretion is advised and your mileage may vary.

What is the DMZ money glitch?

If completed successfully, the DMZ money glitch will allow players to obtain over $1.3m in cash. That amount is the maximum that players can obtain in one map, and in reality should be way above what is realistically achievable.

Players have achieved DMZ money glitch by making the game think you are picking up money whilst stowing a gun as one of your weapons.

Warzone YouTuber, JGOD does a good job in showing a successful attempt at doing the DMZ money glitch. It’s fiddly and quite difficult to do but it is a huge time saver when you can complete it because of the XP ramifications.

The glitch also appears easier to do if using the Kastov-74u weapon as the gun you are picking up to make it happen.

There is a Bug in DMZ that if money is close to a floor weapon it gives you Max Cash while trying to Stow the Money. Max ends up being $1.3M.

Not sure if this works in BR though. Also, Can max level 2 weapons per Match. pic.twitter.com/8uajNKI0xU

JGOD also stated that he wasn’t sure if it was able to be completed in Warzone 2’s Battle Royale mode. After testing it ourselves, the glitch is only available inside the DMZ mode.

Why is it a problem?

Infinity Ward will issue a fix for this bug pretty quickly after they are made aware of it. This exploit will really adversely affect the way that the levelling system works in the game. The DMZ money glitch becomes a big problem very quickly.

Not only are there missions in DMZ that require players to find and spend money, but there is also the added consideration of what it does to the XP economy in Modern Warfare 2.

Players share a Military Rank across all of the modes in Modern Warfare 2. Weapon levelling is also available in every mode in the game. Buy stations in DMZ award players with XP when they buy anything from them. Literally anything.

In theory, after completing the glitch, it is possible to go to a buy station and fully level up two separate weapons in one single DMZ map by spam-buying armor plates.

This would provide an unfair advantage to players who manage to complete the glitch. Although it is not 100% that Infinity Ward will take action against accounts that complete the glitch, it is also not 100% certain that they won’t. The developer will almost certainly be able to see exactly which accounts have done it.

It will also be a huge source of frustration for players who have already grinded their way to fully level weapons in a legitimate matter. Those people will likely side with wanting Infinity Ward to take action. How long will the glitch stay in place? Only time will tell, but keep an eye on this space to see how far things go.
