After a year on Team Liquid’s League of Legends roster, Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg has parted ways with the team.
Bjergsen joined Team Liquid’s 2022 super roster after he returned to professional League of Legends as a player and after time away as a coach. After just a year as part of the roster, he parted ways with the team.
Who was in the Team Liquid super roster?
The 2022 super roster from Team Liquid was meant to dominate the League Championship Series (LCS). The full team used to be:
Top – Gabriël “Bwipo” RauBJungler – Lucas “Santorin” Tao Kilmer Larsen Mid – Søren “Bjergsen” BjergADC – Steven “Hans Sama” LivSupport – Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in
With such big names signed to the roster, it was expected that this roster would not only dominate the LCS, but also reach the international stage. Sadly, for Team Liquid fans, it wasn’t meant to be as despite finishing first in the regular Spring season. The team missed out on the top spot and didn’t qualify for the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI 2022).
While the team showed up at many points during the season and pulled off some insane pop-off moments for fans to rejoice over, it wasn’t enough.
This run of so close yet so far continued as the team finished third in regular season for the summer, but were unable to reach top three to secure a slot at Worlds 2022. With these results, fans and the organization announced they were disappointed with the result and promised a reshuffle. We now know that reshuffle includes the exit of Bjergsen and Hans Sama from the roster.
Team Liquid hinted that they will be aiming to bring in and develop talent as opposed to attempting to create another super roster. Sadly, for the professional League of Legends scene, this isn’t the first roster that burst into the major regions and did not live up to expectation – see also Team Vitality from the League of Legends European Championship (LEC).
Where will Bjergsen go next?
It is currently unclear where Bjergsen will go next – having come out of coaching and streaming to return to professional play as part of the super roster. But wherever he goes next to continue his legacy, he will have plenty of fans cheering and rooting for him.
