HBO’s House of the Dragon is a big hit. Even as the series wraps up its first season, Penguin Random House is releasing The Rise of the Dragon: An Illustrated History of the Targaryen Dynasty, Volume 1. Rise of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood and is authored by Martin, Elio M. García and Linda Antonsson. The book features 180 illustrations in total, all showcasing the key members of the Targaryen family, their terrifying dragons and the devastating conflicts that helped shape the world of Westeros in the decades and centuries preceding the Game of Thrones books.
In short, it’s a useful crash course for anyone who either wants to brush up on Targeryen lore before watching Season 1 or dig deeper into these stories during the wait for Season 2. The book spans Aegon’s Conquest up through the horrific war known as the Dance of Dragons.
Rise of the Dragon is being released in both hardcover and eBook formats, as well as an audiobook narrated by Harry Lloyd. All three are being released on October 25, and you can preorder them below:
