MW2’s Launch Trailer Reveals Intense, Cinematic Campaign

It has finally arrived – the Modern Warfare 2 launch trailer has dropped and it plays out like an ad for a Hollywood action flick. It’s just over a minute long and it’s packed with campaign-related information, including the reveal of some details that weren’t yet fully known. In 2019, Modern Warfare was released, serving as a reboot to the iconic Call of Duty sub-franchise, and it boasted a gritty, realistic, and ultimately, flawless story.

Will Modern Warfare 2’s campaign offer up an even better experience? If this launch trailer is anything to go by, this might just be the best Call of Duty campaign we’ve ever seen.

‘These Things Take Violence and Timing’

With a roster consisting of some of the most legendary characters in Call of Duty history, the launch trailer delivered an exciting teaser of things to come. Within the course of a minute, we were treated to dramatic one-liners from Captain Price, imagery of TF 141, and a few shots of a decorated and senior-ranking soldier named Shepherd. It was revealed a while ago that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would be the most advanced Call of Duty title ever, and it certainly seems as though it will be.

Here’s the trailer, so you can make up your own mind on that claim:

It seems that we’re set for another international adventure in Modern Warfare 2. We’re treated to shots of a South American nation, made up of both desert-based and urban environments. There’s combat on the American border, as well as in the United States itself. At one point, Shepherd demands to know ‘how many they have and where they intend to use them’, after which we meet an antagonist, the leader of a terrorist organisation.

It’s possible that we could be on another nuclear-fuelled chase, attempting to prevent the end of the world while battling against a formidable enemy.

It’s Almost Time

For those that have digitally pre-ordered Modern Warfare 2, the campaign will be available from the 20th of October. If you’re buying the game on the day of its release or if you’ve bought a physical version, you’ll need to wait until the 28th.

There’s so much to take away from this trailer, including a few callbacks to previous Modern Warfare titles. For instance, there’s a scene reminiscent of the legendary ‘All Ghillied Up’ mission from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. There are also teasers that have revealed certain weapons will be making an appearance, such as the Desert Eagle.

Following the launch of Modern Warfare 2, Warzone 2 will also be released, bringing a fresh battle royale experience to the Call of Duty community. Then, just weeks later, in December, the Call of Duty League will commence, bringing the esports experience to the Modern Warfare 2 platform.

There’s a lot of excitement ahead, and we can’t wait.
